Privacy Policy

Gairgo is a delivery service in Koforidua and Abuakwa North (Kukurantumi, Tafo), Ghana. This policy explains what we collect when you use the Gairgo website and apps (Gairgo and Gairgo Partner), why, who we share it with and the choices you have. We follow Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).
What we collect
- Your account: name, phone number, email address and password (stored scrambled, never readable). If you choose "Continue with Google" or "Continue with Apple", they tell us your name and email address (Apple may give a private relay address that forwards to you); we never see your Google or Apple password.
- Where to deliver: your saved places, a map pin and the landmark you type, and any delivery notes.
- Orders and payments: what you ordered, from which shops, prices, fees, refunds and the Mobile Money number and network Paystack tells us you paid with. We never see your MoMo PIN.
- Ratings: the stars you give a shop after a delivery, and the comment you write if you add one.
- Riders: while you're online, your position about once a minute (to offer you nearby jobs); during a delivery, a GPS record about every 15 seconds, drop-off photos, delivery PIN attempts and contact attempts. Nothing is collected while you're offline.
- Identity checks (riders and shop owners only): photos of your Ghana Card, driving licence (riders), a selfie and short movement photos; what we read from them (name, date of birth, ID numbers, licence class and expiry); and a face template. You're asked for separate consent first.
- Shops: shop details, menu, photos, opening hours, sales and payout MoMo number.
- Your device: on the website, small cookies that keep you logged in; your light/dark choice stays on your phone. In the apps, a notification token so we can send you alerts.
Why we use it
- To take, prepare and deliver orders, and to work out delivery fees.
- To take payments, send refunds and pay shops and riders.
- To confirm deliveries really happened and settle "not received" reports (GPS, photos, PIN).
- To check that riders and shop owners are who they say they are, and to stop one person using several accounts.
- To send receipts, delivery updates and security emails, and to answer you when you contact us.
- To keep accounts safe: login limits, two-step login, and logs of who opened identity documents.
We don't sell your data and we don't use it for advertising.
Who sees it
- Shops see what you ordered and your note, and the name and phone number of the rider collecting it. They see your rating and comment with the order number, but not your name next to it.
- Everyone sees a shop's average rating and how many ratings it has, never who gave them.
- Your rider sees your name, phone number, delivery pin and landmark only after accepting your order.
- Customers see their rider's position on the map while the order is on its way.
- Gairgo staff see what they need to run the service and handle problems. Identity documents are seen only by the people who check them, and every view is recorded.
Companies that run parts of Gairgo for us, and only for that:
- Supabase (database, logins and file storage, in Ireland, EU)
- Paystack (Mobile Money payments, refunds and payouts)
- Upstash (short-lived security data such as one-time codes, kept minutes to a day)
- Hostinger (website and app server, and sending email)
- Google and Apple (only if you choose to sign in with them; their sign-in buttons load from their websites)
- Google Cloud (automatic identity checks, in Belgium, EU; nothing is kept there)
- Expo, Google Firebase and Apple (delivering app notifications; they see the message and which phone, not your account)
- OpenStreetMap-based map services (map pictures; they see your internet address, not your account)
We may also share information when the law requires it, for example with the police under a court order.
How long we keep it
- Your account details: until you delete your account.
- Rider GPS records: 30 days.
- Identity-check photos: deleted 30 days after we decide. We keep the decision, the check results, the last 4 digits and expiry of ID numbers and a scrambled code of the full numbers, so the same person can't sign up twice. The face template is kept only while an approved account is open.
- Order, payment, refund and payout records: as long as the law requires us to keep business records. If you delete your account they stay without your name.
- Ratings: the stars stay in the shop's average; if you delete your account, your comments are deleted.
Your choices and rights
- Change your email, password, two-step login and which emails you get in Account.
- Delete your account any time in Account → Delete Account, in the apps or on gairgo.com/account/delete.
- Ask to see or correct the information we hold about you, or object to how we use it.
- Turn off location or notifications in your phone's settings. Riders need location on to deliver.
- If you're unhappy with how we handled your data you can complain to Ghana's Data Protection Commission.
Keeping it safe
Everything travels encrypted. Identity documents and delivery photos sit in private storage that only short-lived links can open. Staff accounts are limited to what each person needs. No system is perfect: tell us straight away if you think your account was misused.
Age
You must be 18 or older to use Gairgo.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy we'll update the date above and tell you about important changes in the app or by email.
